Baseball team LG extended its winning streak to four games with a dramatic finish.
LG won 4-3 in the bottom of the ninth inning against NC at Jamsil Stadium on Nov. 11. With leader Kia losing to Samsung on the same day, second-place LG closed the gap to four games. Park Dong-won was the hero with a two-out, game-tying double in the bottom of the ninth. Austin hit two solo home runs.
The game was a 1-1 pitcher's duel until the eighth inning, with both teams' starters pitching well and Pil Seung-jo pitching a scoreless ninth. LG starter Son Ju-young gave up a solo home run to Davidson in the top of the seventh inning, but otherwise pitched well with six innings of one-run ball. NC starter Shin Min-hyuk also gave up a solo home run to Austin in the fourth inning, but pitched six innings of one-run ball.
LG's Kim Jin-sung came in with runners on first and second in the seventh inning and got out of the jam without allowing a run. He pitched two scoreless innings until the eighth. NC Lim Jung-ho came in with the bases loaded in the seventh and pitched two scoreless innings until the eighth.
The game went into the ninth inning. Both teams' closers struggled. In the top of the ninth, Seo Ho-cheol doubled to center and Davidson walked against LG closer Yoo Young-chan. Kwon Hee-dong laid down a sacrifice bunt to put runners at first and second, but a walk to Yoo Young-chan put runners at second and third.
With runners on second and third, Kim Sung-wook's grounder to shortstop Koo Bon-hyuk made a throwing error, allowing both runners to score. NC took a 3-1 lead and brought in Lee Yong-chan to 안전한 파워볼사이트 pitch the bottom of the ninth.
LG got on the board first when Austin launched a solo home run over the left field wall. Moon Bo-kyung followed with a leadoff double to tie the game. Two batters later, Kim Hyun-soo drew a walk. With runners on first and second, Park Dong-won hit a two-run double off the left-field wall on a full count to end the game.
"Son Ju-young did his job as a starter and set the stage for the victory, while the bats struggled with the borderline pitching of Shin Min-hyuk, making it a tight game. We were able to keep the game close by making good plays in the details, such as Park Dong-won's pickup play in the seventh inning and the bunt shift in the ninth."
"We gave up two runs on an error in the top of the ninth, but Austin's home run turned the tide and Park Dong-won's RBI double that mentally saved Koo Bon-hyeok gave us the win. I would like to praise Park Dong-won for hitting the final hit with good defense in the hot weather," said Park.
